Covid-19: Latest stats and number of beds available in private/ public facilities in the West Rand District

A total number of 1 613 hospital beds are available for the treatment of Covid-19 in the West Rand District.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the West Rand District as of 23 July sits at 9 820 with 4 777 recoveries and 116 deaths according to the Gauteng Provincial Government’s latest breakdown.

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Mogale City stood at 5 130. A total of 2 479 people have recovered so far.

Rand West City and Merafong City, which are also part of the West Rand District, have had 2 469 and 2 130 cases respectively. There are 91 unallocated cases in this District as well. Rand West City and Merafong City have seen 1 120 and 1 178 recoveries respectively.

In the neighbouring City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality Region C, which comprises Roodepoort, the number of confirmed cases to date stands at 8 424, with 4 482 recoveries. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng was standing at 148 854, with 77 397 recoveries and 1 187 deaths.

A record number of 7 193 people are currently hospitalised in public and private facilities in the province.

The Gauteng Provincial Command Council, earlier today gave an update on Covid-19 in Gauteng.

During this briefing, the total number of available hospital beds for Covid-19 in Gauteng was discussed.

The numbers for the West Rand District is as follows:

  • 1 886 adult general beds were available in private facilities with 155 beds available in public facilities
  • 169 paediatric beds were available in private facilities with five beds available in public facilities
  • 192 Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/ High Care beds were available in private facilities with six beds available in public facilities
