VIDEOS: Two house fires a day apart in Randfontein

Fire Chief confirms two serious house fires and transformer catching fire, all in one week.

The Herald could confirm that at least two serious house fires had been reported in Randfontein in a matter of days.

In both cases the homes were damaged severely.

Bennie Mohlabeng, Regional Commander of the Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services said this was a cause for concern, and added that in the same week, a transformer at Cook 1 Mine also caught fire.

On Monday, 27 July, a house in Elandsvlei was damaged extensively after catching fire.

“The fire department responded to an emergency call in Betty Street. On arrival the house was still burning. Three fire trucks were on scene to extinguish the blaze. We did, however, manage to save a second house from burning,” said Mohlabeng.
