Roadblock to acknowledge women

The operation also sought to mark the end of Women's Month

The Rand West City Local Municipality has marked the end of Women’s Month by conducting a safety operation on the R28 between Randfontein and Westonaria on Friday, 28 August.

The Acting Mayor of the municipality, who is also the MMC for Corporate Support Services, Selina Moumakwe said the purpose of the operation was to ensure public safety, and that lockdown regulations were adhered to.

We have this operation with the police and Randfontein Traffic Department. We search vehicles to ensure that communities are complying with the rules of the road, making sure that people have masks and sanitizers in their vehicles as we fight against the coronavirus pandemic,” Moumokwe said.

The Acting Mayor went on say say that the operation sought to honour women by handing them sanitary pads and bouquet of flowers, to end the month of August.
