Local family grateful for their new house

Life became very difficult for her family as they had to squat with other relatives.

A Toekomsrus family whose home was rebuilt by an anonymous good Samaritan said they are immensely grateful for the gift they have been waiting two years to receive.

After their home caught fire on 9 September 2018, Raylene Martin said life became very difficult for her large family. They were separated as they had to squat with other relatives.

It was very difficult, especially when my father fell ill, but we are very grateful that we had good friends who came to our aid when we needed them the most,” Raylene said.

Before the incident, Raylene said the 30-year-old house was home to 12 family members.

“These included my husband and I, our three children and grandchildren, my father, my sister and her children,” Raylene said.

Among their efforts to get help the family went as far as writing a letter to the famous American TV host and comedian, Steve Harvey, although without success. However, in the last two years her family practiced gratitude and appreciation for having survived the incident and that none of the family members was harmed.

I also want to express my gratitude towards the sponsor and everyone who contributed financially and spiritually during these difficulty times. I would like to thank people who never stopped giving us clothes and food, especially during Covid-19 lockdown when days were darker than ever. This is not just a house, but a family home. Thank you very much for showing us your love,” Raylene said.
