Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services confirm no person was injured in the house fire in Randgate. There is, however, damage to the house.

The cause of the fire that damaged a house on Henning Street in Randgate on Tuesday, 29 September is being investigated by the Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services.

Nobody was injured but the house sustained damage, as confirmed by Bennie Mohlabeng, Regional Commander of the Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services.

“One of the rooms in the house caught fire. A tenant on the property noticed smoke coming from the roof but unfortunately, the room where the fire started was locked. The occupant was not there,” Mohlabeng said.

He added emergency workers managed to stop the fire before it extended to the rest of the house.

“There was also smoke and water damage to other rooms in the house. At this stage we are still investigating the cause of the fire,” Mohlabeng added.

One of the tenants on the property, Nthabiseng Moloto, who lives with her boyfriend and their two-year-old son at the back of the property said she was sleeping when the fire started.

I only heard people screaming outside saying there is a fire. We quickly rushed outside screaming for help, but luckily, no one got injured,” the mother said.
