A Winter Drive to keep learners warm and cozy

'This year's programme is very significant, considering the impact Covid-19 has. This may leave many without jobs and children going hungry.'

Twenty learners of Brandvlei Primary School were showered with beanie hats and treated to a cup of warm soup during the school’s annual Winter Drive on June 17.

A coordinator and one of the educators at the school, Tokologo Mareka said the Winter Drive is aimed at assisting families that are either poverty-stricken or overburdened by expenses.

“This year’s programme is very significant, considering the impact Covid-19 has. This may leave many without jobs and children going hungry,” Mareka said.

She added that every year the initiative is welcomed by parents, some of whom can barely afford putting food on the table and clothing their children.

“We are not only responsible for the future of our children, but as a school, it is also important that they are warm and have food in their stomachs so that they can focus in class. We’ll keep helping anywhere we can,” Mareka said.
