Public’s help needed to relieve financial crisis at SPCA
Our local SPCA urgently needs donations to help their animals. The Herald takes a look at what the animals need the most!
The RandWest SPCA is in need of donations to help their animals stay warm and their tummies full in the winter months.
A senior inspector for the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) and committee member of the RandWest SPCA, Maggie Mudd explained they are in need of a few things for their animals and would appreciate it if the community could help them by donating items they desperately need.
Many animals have been surrendered to them. “It is a good thing that people bring the animals in instead of dumping them, but this also means that our funds and supplies are stretched to the limit even more than usual,” said Maggie.
The SPCA also currently has a confiscation case after inspector Renè van Straten seized pigs, geese and chickens.
Some of the things the RandWest SPCA currently needs:
• Vegetables like lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots and spinach. They do not have a large freezer so weekly donations will work
• Medium-sized chicken feed
• Tinned dog and cat food
• Puppy and kitten tinned meat
• Straw
• Leashes
• USB sticks
• Towels
• Cat sand
• Financial donations towards uniforms
They still need committee members so if you would like to apply to serve on the committee, please email a two-page CV to chairperson@spcarandwest.co.za.
