Ryan O’Lien, leader at Meals on Wheels in Randfontein explained they are a non-profit organisation that provides cooked meals to the poorest of the poor, vulnerable and elderly.

“We prepare four to five meals a day and feed approximately 710 people,” said Ryan.

These meals are given for free, but donations are always encouraged as it means they can feed more people.

“We don’t only help by giving meals, we often get things like clothes or stationery from members of the community which we can use to improve the lives of our beneficiaries.”

Ryan said helping the poor gives one a sense of purpose, not only as an individual but for the greater good.

He became involved with the company as a volunteer after he was retrenched from his job at Standard Bank.

“We prepare everything on site. Currently we have three permanent staff members and five volunteers.”

They are always looking for sponsors and any food donations can be delivered to their branch at 23 Godfrey Street in Homelake.
