Mine-road crash: two dead and several injured, including a child
Two died in a head-on collision in Westonaria this weekend while others, including a child were injured.
Two people lost their lives and three others, including a child, were injured in a head-on collision on Saturday, July 24 in Westonaria.
According to Ross Campbell, ER24 spokesperson, two people believed to be in their late 30s lost their lives when a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided head-on between the R28 and R559 on the mine roads, north-east of Westonaria.
“A child and adult suffered critical injuries, and another two adults were in a serious condition.”
He explained when ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 14:06, and found Gauteng EMS already in attendance.
“An adult female from the light motor vehicle and an adult male from the bakkie had suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene. The child and adult, who were in a critical condition, and a fourth seriously injured adult, were also treated by the GEMS ALS paramedic.”
He said the bakkie apparently was carrying white paint as it was all over the scene.
According to Campbell, a 33-year-old male – the fifth adult patient – was entrapped in one of the vehicles. He had suffered serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support interventions before being transported to hospital by ER24 for further care.
The Fire and Traffic Departments as well as the police were on the scene.
