Three suspects were arrested for livestock theft near a filling station along the N12 in Zuurbekom on Wednesday September 29.
Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said at around 10:30, a white Ford Ranger was spotted during a police patrol in the area.
“Our members approached the bakkie and discovered that goats were being hidden under a net. They further noticed that tags had been removed from the animals, which made them even more suspicious, and they pressed for answers.
Police requested proof of ownership from the driver, who failed to produce it. The members arrested all three suspects for being in possession of suspected stolen livestock,” Sergeant Lefakane said.
During the arrest, police also discovered that the suspects had been waiting for their buyer.
