Pre-Easter programme for law and order

Bekkersdal Police and football club host a week-long pre-Easter programme from March 19 to March 27.

Bekkersdal Police and The Simunye Mighty Wave FC hosted pre-Easter games to maintain law and order in the community during the Easter holidays.

The event which saw various entities on board started at the Simunye Playing Grounds on Saturday March 19.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the purpose of the event was to warn children about issues relating to their own safety, including bullying and how they could avoid alcohol and substance abuse.

This was done in an effort to restore discipline and encourage stakeholder relations in the community. We wanted to utilise these games as a tool to build a better community, and that’s the reason we’re targeting the youth,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

Other entities that were part of the event included the Rand West City Traffic Department, Bekkersdal Police Corporate Communications, Social Crime Unit, Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Sector Managers within the Bekkersdal precinct.

Sergeant Lefakane went on to say the event was the start of a week-long programme that would end on Sunday March 27.
