Family waits more than 30 years for title deed

Since 1990 the family has been fighting a long battle to get full ownership of their home in Toekomsrus where they had raised their children.

A Toekomsrus family eventually received their title deed after more than 30 years of going back and forth with government over an error pertaining to a single digit in an Identity Document.

The family’s long-awaited dream finally came true on Tuesday March 29 when management of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) handed over what had been due to them since 1990.

Read next week’s Herald dated April 8 for an exclusive interview with the tearful Poete Bennet, 66, and his life partner Yvonne Golden, 62.
