A jobless man fills empty stomachs

An unemployed good Samaritan in Finsbury is dedicating his life to preventing children going to school on empty stomachs.

An unemployed good Samaritan of Finsbury has dedicated his life to feeding school children every morning instead of crying poverty or living in frustration.

By providing just a hearty cup of soup and a few slices of bread, Tebogo Maselo believes that learners will concentrate during lessons instead of worry about their next meal.

Tebogo said at least 50 learners stop by his little stall on the R559 near a service station in Finsury to get a hot breakfast, instead of only relying on their schools’ feeding scheme.

I started this project because years ago, I used to go to school on an empty stomach. It wasn’t easy. I then realised that many other children in the community were going to school without having eaten anything at all,” Tebogo said.

He was heartbroken after finding out that many of the children’s only meal of the day was the food provided by the government feeding schemes around lunch time, and he knew it couldn’t be easy for them to concentrate during lessons.
