Why Ntombi is saluted …

She goes beyond the call of duty to give the best of service to those who are slightly compromised, disabled and even pregnant while they're in the store.

Meet Ntombi Matlala, or more specifically an outstanding customer service provider at Dis-Chem’s Tambotie Mall branch who has touched the hearts of many, especially senior citizens and those indisposed.

In an exclusive interview with the Herald, the 43-year-old who is known to have a heart of gold, said she made sure every day that she gave her best in her job. She attributed this to some principles that were instilled in her at a young age.

Among those principles are working hard, being dedicated and respecting every customer. She was nominated for the We Salute Campaign last year, which she said she didn’t expect.

I’ve always devoted my time and strength to my work, and I’m glad that the Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA ) and the community recognised my work,” Ntombi said.

Speaking about some of the daily challenges that came with working in the retail sector, Ntombi said she had shown resilience especially when dealing with characteristics and personalities that could be difficult – adding that it’s not the kind of job to be taken lightly as it is not for everyone.

“However, understanding my work and what is expected of me as an employee makes waking up each morning worth it, and for the elderly people I give my all,” Ntombi said.

She also goes beyond the call of duty to give the best of service to those who are slightly compromised, disabled and even pregnant while they’re in the store.

I go with them until they’re done with their shopping and make sure that they’re not in queue longer than they should be.”

Ntombi believes that no man is an island and the sense of community should be embraced everywhere in society because people need each other.

“My customers are my priority; they’re the sole reason I wake up each day. I am grateful and blessed, and from the depth of my heart I would like to thank every single person who has seen how I’ve made their day,” Ntombi said.
