Over 1 300 learners addressed and searched
Mass school safety talk and search held by cops from 13 police stations in the District in Rand West City to support teachers to deal with social ills they encounter.
Police from 13 stations in the West Rand District along with numerous stakeholders visited Kgothalang Secondary School for a safety talk, search and crime awareness on Wednesday, May 4.
Joining hands on the day were the police’s Social Crime Prevention, Rural Safety and Designated Firearm Units, and members of the Departments of Education, Health, Social Development and Gauteng Community Safety as well as representatives of Rand West Public Safety, West Rand District Municipality, Youth Desk, Victim Empowerment (Are Ageng), The Message Development Centre and Gender-based Violence Brigades.
West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane who is also spokesperson of the Krugersdorp Police, said the aim of visiting the school was to support teachers to deal with social ills they encounter at the school, and to maintain discipline.
The learners were encouraged to focus on their studies and to become future leaders and be role models, to make their parents and teachers proud, but most of all to make themselves proud.”
A school search was also conducted but no illegal substances or dangerous weapons were seized.

At least 1 307 Grade 8, 9 and 10 learners were addressed about teenage pregnancy, bullying, substance abuse and gangsterism.
Learners were further encouraged to run the race and be persistent in finishing their school careers.”
Principal Mr Makhoane and teachers were delighted with the presence of police and stakeholders, and expressed their appreciation towards the whole team.
The whole team then proceeded to the Bekkersdal Taxi Rank to encourage the hawkers to be vigilant about robberies in and around the area, and continue to help the police in the fight against crime.
Zuurbekom Clinic was also visited and 500 pamphlets were distributed regarding human trafficking, drugs and alcohol abuse, gender-based violence, rejecting and reporting stolen goods, negligence promoting theft, safety tips to prevent hijackings and business robberies.
On behalf of the acting West Rand District Police commissioner Brigadier Mashole Manamela, Sibiya thanked members and stakeholders for making the day a success.
