Thunderstorm causes power outage across town

Some residents are faced with yet another power outage, this time due to a severe thunderstorm over the weekend.

Randgate — Multiple areas are left without electricity following a thunderstorm on Sunday night (February 2).

According to ward councillor Alwyn van Tonder, the thunderstorm tripped a transformer located at the Market Street Substation. He added the electrical team managed to switch the power on in areas such as Bootha, Loumarina and Elandsvlei AH.

There are, however, still a lot of areas without electricity, including Randpoort, Randgate, Homelake, Wheatlands, Ooster and Middelvlei AH, Finsbury and Ten Acres AH. Dwarskloof and Randridge AH, which is supplied directly by Eskom, are also off.

The team will be testing the transformer as well as the cables and other components this morning [February 3],” Van Tonder explained.

Further feedback on the matter will be given as soon as more information comes to light.
