Abandoned goat Sally saved from certain death
A lonely goat left to die in a remote veld is now getting a second chance at life thanks to a local animal rescue organisation.
Sally, a lonely goat found on the side of the road, now has a second chance at life after No More Tears Animal Rescue saved her from a remote veld.
One of the directors of No More Tears, Stephan Hendricks said, “I’m a strong believer that everything happens for a reason and sometimes I can just question the severity of the happenings.”
“Sally literally waited for death to come knocking. I don’t know if she was dumped or fell off a moving vehicle, but she was lying in the middle of nowhere. No other goats in the area, nor any houses or people,” said Stephan.
He explained they were returning from a delivery on September 23, when they were involved in a collision.
“It was already dark and there weren’t any street lights, so all we could see were passing cars. We were advised to leave the scene after the police didn’t respond and to report it the next morning. The following morning, we returned with the police to the scene and while the police were taking measurements, I noticed Sally lying in the veld,” Stephan explained.

He added, “As I approached her, she didn’t move, and even when I tried to move her, she didn’t. She is extremely underweight, so I assume she has been there for a few days. The few pieces of green grass where she was lying had been eaten.”
They also discovered she was lame in her hind legs.
Stephan then explained to the police that he was from No More Tears Animal Rescue and they allowed him to take Sally. According to him, Sally was immediately taken to the vet yet he noted she was underweight but luckily had no broken bones. After a few injections, she was placed in the courtyard.
It was extremely heartbreaking to see her vigorously eating the green grass and drinking water. If I hadn’t gone out, Sally would most probably have died a slow death,” said Stephan.
She is being treated for her lameness and is now doing much better; she is trying hard to use her back legs.
If Sally has an owner, proof of ownership will be required. Any person wishing to donate to Sally’s care can contact No More Tears on 084 433 7748.
