Operation Okae Molao across Gauteng: 660 suspects arrested

Police in Gauteng made 660 arrests during Okae Molao operations held simultaneously in various precincts in Gauteng on Saturday night, August 6.

In the West Rand District operations were held in Westonaria and Bekkersdal. Tshwane was concentrating on Brooklyn and Villieria while Sedibeng operations were conducted in Evaton. The arrests in the four districts totalled 561 for crimes that include possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen goods, possession of drugs, assaulting a police officer, and driving drunk.

An operation in Eldorado Park resulted in the arrest of 99 suspects. Sixty-seven of them were undocumented persons, six arrests were for drug-related offences, while 13 were for driving drunk, among others. Hundreds of litres of alcohol were seized and six liquor outlets were closed for operating without a licence. The police also seized a replica firearm.

Some of the suspects were released after paying admission of guilt fines on the spot, while others were to appear in different courts in Gauteng on Monday, 8 August 2022.
