Roadblock leads to fines worth almost R13k being issued

The operation was initiated by female police officers and was aimed at ridding the area of unlawful and criminal activities.

Six people were arrested during an Operation Basadi roadblock on the R28 between Bekkersdal and Westonaria last Friday, August 19.

The arrests related to undocumented persons and being in possession of dagga. Law-enforcement officers also issued traffic fines worth R12 800.

The roadblock was initiated by the West Rand District’s female police officers, who were joined by their male counterparts to commemorate Women’s Month.

It started at 09:00 and ended at noon, and was a joint operation between the police, Rand West Public Safety and community policing forums from the two areas.

It was aimed at ridding the area of unlawful and criminal activities.

Stops and searches on vehicles and persons were conducted, and pamphlets about gender-based violence, and with tips for general and road safety were issued to motorists, passengers and pedestrians.
