School fight almost costs lives: Three learners arrested, four injured

The learners are part of a group and more arrests are expected to follow.

Three learners from a high school in Simunye were arrested in connection with the stabbing of four learners at the school.

Two of the suspects are 17 years old while the third suspect is 16.

The confrontation started inside the school premises on September 14 and later moved outside.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane the suspects are facing charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

It remains unclear what the motive for the stabbing was and we are still investigating. The learners are part of a group and more arrests are expected to follow.”

The four learners who were stabbed sustained injuries to their upper bodies and bruises on their hands, and were taken to Simunye Clinic.

One of them was later transferred to Leratong Hospital in Mogale City for further medical care.

The Herald has approached the Gauteng Department of Education which is yet to comment on the matter. There is also a video of the incident in the Herald‘s possession of which the authenticity needs to be verified first.
