West Rand Police continue relentless fight against crime: 84 arrested

Police send warning to criminals after 84 arrests during another Operation Okae Molao.

On Thursday, May 4, police on the West Rand issued another warning to criminals by making 84 arrests during an Operation Okae Molao held in the early hours. The areas targeted this time around were Tarlton, Herkpoort and Magaliesburg.

Two roadblocks were also conducted on the R560 in Tarlton and Marupeng Road between Hekpoort and Krugersdorp, which resulted in 46 traffic fines being issued to the value of R36 150.

Joining police in the operation were various other stakeholders, including the Department of Community Safety, Gauteng Traffic Police, Department of Correctional Services, Mogale City Traffic Police and Crime Prevention wardens.

West Rand District police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana praised the efforts of all law enforcement members and stakeholders, further encouraging residents to be vigilant and assist the police in crime prevention.

84 suspects were arrested for the following crimes:

• Common robbery (five)
• Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (nine)
• Assault common (one)
• Housebreaking and theft (seven)
• Business burglary (two)
• Possession of drugs (one)
• Possession of stolen property (one)
• Theft (four)
• Fraud (two)
• Malicious damage to property (two)
• Intimidation (one)
• Kidnapping (one)
• Contravention of protection order (three)
• Culpable homicide (one)
• Reckless and negligent driving (four)
• Possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition (four)
• Possession of ammunition and dagga (one)
• Possession of suspected stolen property (three)
• Dealing in liquor, without licence (one)
• Possession of stolen vehicle of a case of Cleveland SAPS (two)
• Contravention of Pharmaceutical Act (two)
• Illegal immigrants and contravention of Gambling Act (two).
• Illegal immigrants (24).
• Assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (one)
• Common assault (domestic violence) (two)
• Rape (one).

All arrested suspects will appear in various magistrates’ courts within the district soon.
