This is according to the latest crime statistics from a local security company which depicts the criminal incidents that they've responded to for the days in question.

Incidents of break-ins and theft have seemingly occupied the list of crimes recorded by a local security company from November 21 to November 24.

The latest crime statistics from Mapogo A Mathamaga depict that the criminal element in town seems opportunistic for what the festive season holds. Mapogo has responded to several incidents these last couple of days.

“We recorded an incident of break-in and theft on Bussing Street in Aureus on November 21. This is where our armed reaction officer Jonathan Badenhorst responded to an alarm at a client’s premises,” the company’s operations manager, Danie Vermeulen, said.

“It is understood that upon exiting the premises, the officer spotted the perpetrator carrying two 9kg gas cylinders and it was during this time that the perpetrator attempted to flee.

“He was however arrested by our officer and upon further investigation, we found out that the perpetrator had broken into a nearby fast-food business, ” Vermeulen said and added that the perpetrator was handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, in another case of break-in and theft which occurred on November 24, the security company reported that perpetrators jumped a perimeter fence at a property on Raven Street in Greenhills and went on to steal various power tools.

They also reported a different incident of trespassing and theft which occurred on Godfrey Street in Randgate on November 21.

During this time, perpetrators gained entry into the property and went on to steal all outside taps and water pipes.
