Break-ins and theft soar in Rand West City

Criminals target a house in Greenhills in one of several serious incidents reported this past week.

Numerous break-ins and thefts have been reported across Rand West City in the first week of the new year.

This is according to local security company Mapogo A Mathamaga’s latest crime statistics, which show that they responded to a total of five related incidents between January 2 and January 6.

“We had an incident of trespassing and theft in Kenneth Road, Greenhills on January 2 where perpetrators gained entrance to the property by jumping over the wall. They then went on to climb onto the roof of the house and stole a solar panel,” said the company’s operations manager, Danie Vermeulen.

“We also recorded another incident of business break-in and theft in Dodge Street, Aureus on January 3. It is understood that the perpetrators gained entrance to the business premises by jumping over a perimeter fence. They then forced open a container on the premises and proceeded to steal various items.”

A day later, another incident of business break-in and theft was recorded, this time on Sutherland Street in the Randfontein CBD. Here perpetrators stole an unknown amount of cash as well as various other items.

“Apart from these incidents listed above, we also recorded two incidents of break-in and theft – one in Smith Street, Randgate, and another in Boerperd Street, Greenhills. This was on January 5 and January 6 respectively. In the first incident perpetrators stole five outside alarm beams in one of the properties and three speakers in the second incident,” Vermeulen concluded.
