Two arrested and stolen bakkies recovered in the West
Five car thieves were arrested and three stolen bakkies recovered following a major operation between Zeerust and the West Rand.
Three stolen Ford Rangers were successfully recovered and five car thieves arrested following a mass joint effort between police, traffic police and private security from Zeerust and the West Rand.

According to Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello, police received a tip-off regarding the theft of three Ford Rangers from a dealership in Zeerust in the North West. Police intelligence indicated the stolen vehicles were travelling towards the West Rand.
“Upon receiving confirmed route details, the Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) Airwing assisted in locating the stolen vehicles. One of the vehicles was spotted heading toward Krugersdorp, resulting in a high-speed chase. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby field. With aerial assistance from the GTP Airwing and rapid ground response by BCI Security, the two were eventually apprehended and detained by Tracker SA and BAS Specialized Operations.
The second and third vehicles were picked up by Tracker SA. One of them was recovered on the West Rand while the third was recovered in the North West, where the remaining three thieves were also apprehended.”
The joint operation was launched with teams from the GTP Airwing, the police’s West Rand Crime Prevention Wardens, Carletonville police’s K9 Unit, Rustenburg Highway Patrol, the North West Crime Intelligence Unit, Tracker SA, Cartrack, Reflex Secure and BCI Security.
