At around 11:00, Mapogo and police responded to a distress call from a resident at Helikon Villas. According to Mapogo operational manager Mac van Zyl, a man had been trying to force his way into his sister’s home while armed with a knife.

Van Zyl said that when one of the victims ran outside to ask a neighbour for help, the suspect attacked the neighbour. He then went on to stab two other residents.

When authorities arrived on the scene, the man refused to comply, leading to a physical struggle. As officers attempted to disarm him, the man resisted, and was subsequently shot.

Van Zyl confirmed that all three victims, as well as the suspect, were transported to hospital with serious injuries. He added that, as of now, no fatalities have been reported.

Police arrived on scene shortly after the stabbings took place.
