Residents warned to take precautions after break-in at complex

After a break-in at a complex, security company EPR advises residents to stay alert and follow key safety measures.

Following a recent break-in at a complex in Helikon Park, EPR General Manager Johan Krogh has shared important safety tips for residents.

Krogh confirmed that the company recently received a call for assistance after a break-in at 15:46 on January 23. He said video footage provided by a neighbour showed a white Toyota Hilux entering the complex, after which several suspects broke into one of the homes.

“Complex residents are warned to be vigilant at all times and to ensure that the complex gate closes fully before driving off,” said Krogh.

He offered additional tips residents should keep in mind, as complexes are not always as secure as one might assume:

• Ensure the main gate closes fully when entering or exiting the complex
• Make sure the main gate and individual gates are tamper-proof, so they cannot be lifted off the rail or gate motor gear
• Consider installing a gate alarm linked to a security company to alert when the gate is opened without a remote or access code
• Do not rely solely on neighbours to watch your property, install an alarm system connected to an armed response company
• Keep individual safety gates locked at all times
• Use your alarm system even for short absences
• Set up a properly managed complex WhatsApp group to report expected contract workers or large deliveries
• Remain vigilant at all times
