RWCLM warns about road closure safety
The municipality warned residents regarding the dangers of a sinkhole located on Van der Bijl Street.
The Rand West City Local Municipality has warned residents not to use Van der Bijl Street since it has been permanently closed due to a sinkhole.
Municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa has stated the road connecting Westonaria and Venterspost is permanently closed, creating a hazardous danger to motorists and pedestrians.
“Given the potential dangers involved, we strongly advise against attempting to cross the road or access the vicinity near the sinkhole. Disregarding this warning may lead to severe consequences, including but not limited to accidents, injuries, or even loss of life,” Montshiwa expressed.
Furthermore, the municipality stated they understand the road closure might cause inconveniences and disruptions to residents’ daily routines. However, he explained the safety and wellbeing of the residents are the main priority.
