#WestRandWaterWatch: Plan ahead, municipality urges residents

The municipality has released detailed information about Rand Water’s upcoming planned maintenance and has provided guidelines on how residents can prepare for possible disruptions.

Rand Water will carry out planned maintenance from June 30 to July 2, which will affect several municipalities, including Merafong, Madibeng, Royal Bafokeng, Rustenburg, Mogale and Rand West City.

According to a statement by Rand Water, the maintenance will occur at different times across various locations. Work on the Zuikerbosch Plant is expected to impact the Eikenhof System.

The maintenance will specifically affect water supply to the listed municipalities. Rand West City spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa confirmed the work includes pipe leak repairs at the Zuikerbosch Plant that will directly affect the Eikenhof System.

Montshiwa said residents in Randfontein and surrounding suburbs can expect reduced water pressure and intermittent supply from June 30 until July 21. He added that full recovery may take up to 14 days after the maintenance period ends.

On June 30:

• pumping stops for six hours
• resume at 50% for 42 hours
• gradually increases to 80% for the following 19 days

What residents can do:

• store water in clean containers
• use water sparingly at home and work
• help raise awareness among residents and vulnerable people
