Rand West strengthens China ties for economic growth
During a recent visit by a Chinese delegation to Rand West City, the municipality highlighted the initiative aimed at creating local opportunities for its residents.
Executive Mayor William Matsheke sat down with the Political Management Team to host a Chinese delegation, where the opportunity for job creation, industrial growth and skills development was discussed.
This is according to Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson, Phillip Montshiwa, who added that local businesses joined the delegation to advance plans for a development and education industry zone in Rand West City.
“The initiative is set to drive job creation, industrial growth and skills development,” Montshiwa emphasised.

He further claimed residents will benefit from increased employment, enhanced education and better public services. While he stated residents have the chance to contribute to economic growth, he also noted local enterprises will gain access to new markets, cutting-edge technology and cost efficiencies.
“The project forms part of a broader strategy to position Rand West City as a competitive hub for investment and innovation. This will connect global expertise with local opportunity,” Montshiwa concluded.
For RWCLM, this is the second big move to strengthen relations with China this year, following the announcement that they partnered with the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LG-SETA) and various stakeholders from China to establish a Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) and youth centre to create economic opportunities in July.
