Rand West City seeks private partner to revitalise Riebeeck Lake
Have your say: The Randfontein community is invited to help shape the future of Riebeeck Lake.
Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) plans to grant private sector rights to operate and manage Riebeeck Lake and its surrounding infrastructure, RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa confirmed.
The move is aimed at restoring the 19-hectare recreational facility, which is currently not operational, and promoting recreational, tourism, and commercial activities.
Montshiwa said the rights will be granted to the successful bidder for a period of nine years and eleven months, under conditions detailed in a final agreement.
“The municipality seeks to revitalise Riebeeck Lake through private sector participation. The successful bidder will be granted rights to use, control and manage the facility for the purpose of operationalising, maintaining and managing the lake and associated infrastructure to promote recreational, tourism and commercial activities in line with municipal development objectives,” he explained.
The public, community organisations, and other interested parties are invited to submit written comments or representations within 30 days during normal office hours.
Comments can be delivered to the office of the Executive Director for Economic Development, Human Settlement and Planning, located on the first floor of the Library Building at the corner of Sutherland Avenue and Pollock Street in Randfontein, office number 1.
A public notice was also published in the Randfontein Herald recently.
