Community unites for local clean-up effort

The Ward 9 community in Greenhills recently held a clean-up campaign aimed at improving their surroundings.

The Ward 9 community in Greenhills recently organised a clean-up campaign to enhance their neighbourhood.

Councillor Tewie Botha explained that the initiative’s theme was “Winning Communities Are Involved Communities”. He invited residents to help clean the park area next to Tier Street and Rietbok Road by picking up rubbish and cutting the grass.

Unfortunately, only a few residents attended, and the group was only able to clean along Rietbok Road. The area near Tier Street remains a concern due to ongoing illegal dumping, Tewie noted.

He added that he is planning another clean-up in December to make the area more welcoming for those who want to fish or spend time there.

Tewie concluded, “Rubbish dumping is a common issue, which I attribute to the threat of armed illegal miners at the landfill site.”
