West Rand urged to prepare for next water maintenance phase
Residents across the West Rand are urged to prepare for possible low water pressure or intermittent supply as Eskom and Rand Water begin the second phase of planned infrastructure maintenance from July 17 to 19.
With the first phase of Eskom and Rand Water’s planned infrastructure maintenance completed, preparations are under way for the second phase.
The first phase took place from May 29 to June 2, during which Eskom carried out critical maintenance on its infrastructure.
According to Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo, the second phase will begin at 07:00 on July 17 and conclude at 19:00 on July 19.
“Eskom and Rand Water will undertake planned infrastructure maintenance during this period, including electrical maintenance at the Zuikerbosch Purification Plant and the completion of cross-connections from old to new pipelines,” she said.
The maintenance will affect the City of Johannesburg, Mogale City Local Municipality, Rand West City and Merafong.
Maroo said pumping from several systems across the province would be reduced, which could result in low water pressure or intermittent water supply, depending on water consumption and municipal reservoir levels.
She urged residents to prepare for the maintenance period by using water sparingly.
“We will continue to provide regular progress updates before and during the maintenance period through our official communication channels, including our website and social media platforms. We once again thank all customers and stakeholders for their continued understanding, cooperation and support as we undertake these critical infrastructure maintenance activities. These investments are essential to strengthening the long-term reliability, resilience and sustainability of the bulk water supply system for the benefit of all customers,” she said.
