Pumping suspended at Westergloor Reservoir despite maintenance completion
Rand West City Local Municipality has halted pumping operations again to allow critical water levels to recover following recent maintenance.
Maintenance work at the Westergloor Reservoir has been successfully completed, Rand West City Local Municipality confirmed on Friday.
The unplanned maintenance, which began on Wednesday, October 7, was carried out by the municipality’s Water and Sanitation team in collaboration with Rand Water. The teams installed isolation valves on supply lines to help regulate high water flow.
Pumping to the Greenhills and Westergloor reservoirs resumed at 04:00 today, Ocotber 9 as the water supply system began to recover.

However, pumping was temporarily suspended shortly afterwards due to critically low water levels across the reservoir network. Municipality officials said the measure is necessary to enable reservoir levels to build up before normal operations resume.
The resumption of pumping will depend on prevailing system conditions and level recovery.
Residents are urged to continue using water sparingly to support system recovery and protect available water resources.
The municipality appreciated residents’ patience and apologised for the inconvenience.
