Home Affairs on Wheels to assist residents with Smart ID cards today
Residents can visit Randgate Library to apply for or re-issue Smart ID cards through the Home Affairs on Wheels initiative.
Randfontein residents will have an opportunity to access Home Affairs services closer to home when the Department of Home Affairs brings its Home Affairs on Wheels initiative to Randgate Library today, October 26.
The mobile service will operate until 15:30 today, assisting with Smart ID card applications and re-issues.
Residents who need to replace a lost Smart ID card must bring a police affidavit confirming the loss. Those converting from the green barcoded ID to a Smart ID card will be required to pay R140 – card payment only.
First-time Smart ID card applicants must bring their original birth certificate and their parents’ original identity documents. Additional documentation may be required for children whose parents are deceased or who are under the care of a guardian or caregiver.
Where a child is accompanied by a guardian or caregiver, a social worker’s report or court order is required. The poster also states that biological parents must accompany the child applying for the card.
For applicants aged 60 and older, the service is free if they have never had a Smart ID card. However, those replacing a lost card will be required to pay R140.
Residents are reminded that only card payments will be accepted, and no cash payments are allowed.
For further information, residents can contact Gomolemo More on 079 696 0217.
The initiative aims to make essential identity document services more accessible to the local community.
