Residents of Greenhills and surrounding areas will have an opportunity to access Home Affairs services closer to home when the Home Affairs on Wheels’ mobile service visits the area on Tuesday, September 15.

The mobile unit will be stationed at Greenhills, next to Pick n Pay, at the corner Northway and Greenhills Avenue from 08:30 to 15:30, providing Smart ID card services to community members.

The outreach will include first-time Smart ID card applications, re-issues of Smart ID cards and services for senior citizens aged 60 and above.

Residents applying for a first-time Smart ID card are urged to bring the required original documentation. This includes the applicant’s original birth certificate and the original IDs of both parents. Additional documentation is required in cases where a parent is deceased or where the child is under the care of a guardian or caregiver.

For residents needing to re-issue a Smart ID card, a police affidavit is required if the card has been lost. The conversion from a green bar-coded ID book to a Smart ID card costs R140.

Senior citizens aged 60 and above can apply for their first Smart ID card free of charge, while the replacement of a lost Smart ID card costs R140.

Residents are reminded that card payments only will be accepted, with no cash allowed, and are encouraged to ensure that they bring all required original documents to avoid disappointment.
