Greenhills residents will once again have an opportunity to access Home Affairs services closer to home when the department’s Home Affairs on Wheels mobile service visits the area today, September 28.

The mobile service will be available at the Ward 6 Greenhills Stadium Hall from 08:30 to 15:00, offering residents access to a range of Smart ID card services.

Residents will be able to apply for first-time Smart ID cards, while those who have lost their cards can apply for a re-issue. A police affidavit is required when a Smart ID card has been lost.

The outreach will also assist residents who want to convert their green bar-coded ID books to Smart ID cards. The conversion costs R140, while replacing a lost Smart ID card also costs R140. Card payments only will be accepted, with no cash allowed.

Senior citizens aged 60 and above are encouraged to make use of the service. First-time Smart ID card applications for this age group are free of charge.

Parents and guardians applying for a child’s first Smart ID card are reminded to bring the required original documents. These include the child’s original birth certificate and the original IDs of both parents.

Additional documentation is required where a parent is deceased or where a child is under the care of a guardian or caregiver.

The notice also states that biological parents must accompany the child, while a guardian accompanying a child must provide their original ID. Where a father accompanies the child, a copy of the biological mother’s ID must be provided, and the child must be using the father’s surname.

Residents are urged to bring all required original documents to avoid disappointment.
