The Mayor’s holiday season wish to Rand West City
Through her festive season message, the Mayor acknowledges the different religious beliefs of residents throughout the region and the country. She also reflected on the year 2022.
The holiday season has arrived and the first citizen of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM), Executive Mayor Gladys Khoza, wishes all residents, whatever your religious belief may be, a happy and prosperous time with family and friends.
“Regardless of whether we celebrate Christmas or any other tradition, I am sure many of us are looking forward to the holiday break. Let us also love and care for those who are less fortunate than ourselves any way we can. On behalf of Rand West City Local Municipality, let me take this opportunity to wish you a Christmas that gives you contentment, happiness, love and a very happy and prosperous New year,” said Khoza
She further encouraged residents to be safe during this time and urged others, who will be visiting the town, to support local businesses which will inject money into the local economy.
“To the visitors who will be coming to our city over the festive season, we welcome you and wish you a joyous stay with loved ones and friends. We also encourage you to support our local traders. For those going away for the holidays please travel safe and be extra cautious on the roads.”
The Mayor also reflected on the year 2022.
“We have reached the end of the year having walked miles together under very challenging and trying times. I must say that our resilience helped us to remain hopeful and did we tackle issues head-on. Not so long ago our country emerged from the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions which imposed serious hardship in society. This increased poverty levels and job losses destroying many families.
“As the municipality, we shall continue to work tirelessly with all stakeholders and our community to continuously assist in the process of improving the wellness, safety and dignity of our residents. At this point, I must pause and thank our community and the entire municipal administration for their continuous sacrifice and patience in making this transition period of 2021/22, from Covid-19 seem smooth and easy,” said Khoza.
The Mayor then concluded on a very serious note and discouraged alcohol and substance abuse which are the biggest contributors to crimes including gender-based violence (GBV).
