Adopt-a-cop programme rolled out in 11 schools
Cops visited a 11 schools in Bekkersdal to speak to learners about the dangers of crime and ways of curbing the criminal element in learning institutions.
Bekkersdal Police have prioritised safer schools in their policing precinct and visited a total of 11 schools in the area to speak to learners about the dangers of crime and ways of curbing the criminal element in learning institutions.

Numerous schools were visited on January 11 and formed part of the adopt-a-cop programme, which is aimed at introducing the men and women in blue to learners at the schools, as well as introducing those who have been assigned in the programme.

It is also aimed at ensuring that schools in the area are free from violence or anything that may disturb them from learning.

Speaking at TM Letlhake Secondary School in Bekkersdal, the area’s station commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela delivered her keynote address and called for safer schools.
“Safety around the schools is our priority, therefore as safety ambassadors we are not going to leave any stone unturned when it comes to safety and security. These institutions of learners will be free from crime if we together as the management, parents, learners and the community work together,” said Matamela.
