Ex-offender gives pep talk at school
Reason Tholi, an ex-offender, visited Kgothlang Senior Secondary School to take a stand and speak about social ills such as bullying.
The Bekkersdal Police is committed to creating crime-free schools and brought in an ex-offender to the Kgothlang Senior Secondary School to discourage learners from criminal activities and explain the dangers of crime and the consequences thereof.
This was on February 13 and formed part of the police’s school safety campaign and comes after learners at the school were reported to have been fighting in and around the vicinity of the school.
Police spokesperson Linkie Lefakane said the campaign also roped in social crime prevention officers as well as the Department of Community Safety.
“We decided to go to the school in a bid to discourage aggressive behaviour which has been displayed by learners. This is after there were reported to have been fighting in and around the school’s vicinity and allegedly in groups. We also decided to bring in Reason Tholi who is an ex-offender to take a stand and speak on social ills such as bullying which often result in gangs or group fights,” said Lefakane.
She added that during his address, Tholi informed learners about the negative impact of life inside prison, and it will affect their future.
According to her, Tholi also encouraged the learners to respect their teachers, so that they can do better in their studies as well as in life.
