Tshepo Shawa, the spokesperson for the Gauteng MEC of Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, said they plan on reaching more people through this program.
“We are running the training from March to December 2023 in the townships, informal settlements, and hostels across the five districts in the province. Our target is to empower a total of 2 500 individuals by end of the year. Since we took the First Responders Training to communities, a total of 160 people were trained, 107 from Kwa-Masiza Hostel in Sebokeng and 53 in Meyerton Farm in Midvaal,” said Shawa.
He concluded by adding that the participants will be equipped with skills on how to assist victims when they have convulsions, stab or gunshot wounds, victims who fell from heights, people with sprains, and those who sustained burns, as well as those who drowned.
