The event was aimed at educating members of the community about various traumatic events that occur daily, as well equip them with the tools and mechanisms to use to react to, or control these situations. The event, which was held on the hospital’s grounds, saw an impressive turnout of community members, healthcare professionals, and local organisations.

Tshegofatso Moiloa, Onkgopotse Moiloa, Nokwandla Dlamini and baby Mphoentle Uttams were also at the event and had a fun time interacting with the hospital’s team.

With engaging presentations, workshops, and interactive activities, the awareness day served as a platform to educate attendees with vital information.

The hospital manager at Lenmed, Marietha van Vuuren, said their efforts were a success.

As an accredited trauma centre endorsed by the Trauma Society of South Africa, Lenmed has gone through a rigorous assessment of its ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients in its emergency department.

Danisile Salile and her children sat around a table and did some activities at the Trauma Awareness Day.

“The accreditation makes it more fitting for the hospital to host events of this nature to show through simulation, how its capabilities, resources, and medical team handle trauma-related injuries as well as other medical emergencies. By hosting the event, the hospital showcased its commitment to furthering the Lenmed group’s purpose of creating healthier and prosperous communities by not only providing exceptional healthcare services but educating and empowering the community it serves,” said Marietha.

Puleng Nciki with her daughter Lebohang Nciki said they learned a lot at the Trauma Awareness Day.

In addition to this, there were food stalls and a play area for children where they could go to the jumping castle. They also had an opportunity to ride the SAPS horses.

By hosting the event, the hospital showcased its commitment to furthering the Lenmed group’s purpose of creating healthier and prosperous communities by not only providing exceptional healthcare services but educating and empowering the community it serves.

“Lenmed has a 24-hour emergency department operated by a team of trauma consultants who are on 24-hour standby. The facility also has an advanced life support response vehicle to serve the community of Randfontein and surrounding areas. Working together with ambulance services and health practitioners, the response vehicle responds to any emergencies at no extra cost to patients,” said Marietha.

Jaque and Martie Jonker came out to the Trauma Awareness Day and had fun with their little one.
