Mandela Day uniform drive to be held for disadvantaged learners

The uniform drive at Avanté Primary is to ensure that disadvantaged learners start their high school careers with the necessary school uniform for the 2024 academic year.

Semamotra Music and Entertainment, a non-profit company (NPC), is set to host a uniform fun drive at Avantè Primary School, where they hope to get a donation of uniforms currently not in use from the different schools in Randfontein.

This will be on Mandela Day (July 18) and the drive will start at 11am till 2pm when items for the drive will be received.

The NPC’s Kim Semenya said the purpose of the drive is to ensure that learners from disadvantaged backgrounds at the school have the necessary school uniform when going to grade 8 in the 2024 academic year.

She added that their efforts are aimed at assisting learners while alleviating the pressure on unemployed parents in the new academic year.

“We will be collecting uniforms for the needy learners of Avantè that will be going to different high schools next year.

“Uniforms are a bit expensive and some of the parents of the learners are unemployed and do not have the means to purchase new uniforms for their children. As a result, we as Semamotra will be going around to different schools to ask for uniforms that will be given to us as a donation,” Kim said.

She further said that they will be particularly targeting matric learners who are in different high schools around Randfontein to donate their uniforms after writing their final exams.

She added that they are working with Philani Community Development Centre, Randfontein High School, Rand West City Libraries, Floam, Umphakathi FM, Spar Kocksoord, Avanté Primary School and Westville Clinic.

There will also be motivational talks by Nani Matsoso and Ms Randfontein Tumelo Lehloka.

There will also be performances by various West Rand-based artists such as Cadenza, Kim, Prince Vena and Datboyfly 99.
