Attack on small farm in Randridge: Mother recovering at home

Ingrid Smith, who was shot and injured during a suspected farm attack in Randridge, was recently discharged and is recovering.

Ingrid Smith, the woman who miraculously survived after she was shot during an attack on her small farm in Randridge, is recovering.

The Smith family was attacked earlier this month by armed robbers who waited for them to arrive home. Her husband, Duwayne Smith, was shot multiple times and killed during the attack. They were both shot in front of their children aged eight and 10. The children managed to get away unharmed.

The Randfontein Herald spoke with the chairperson of the Stock Theft Information Centre and Rural Safety community in Randfontein, JP de Beer, at the time regarding the incident, who said, “We believe that the attack was not financially motivated as the perpetrator(s) did not take anything from the scene. Instead, they shot the family as they were pulling in the driveway.”

About Ingrid’s condition, De Beer confirmed she was discharged from the hospital on August 17.

“Ingrid and her children are battling to come to terms with what happened but they are receiving counselling. It’s going to take two to three weeks for her hand to regain full function, as it is still in a sling,” said De Beer, who added that AfriForum is also offering counselling to the family.
