Toekies resident loves nothing more than a braai
The Herald caught up with residents from Toekomsrus about how they braai.
Toekies resident Enrique Bhana shared his love for braaiing on Heritage Day, also known as National Braai Day.
Celebrated on September 24, it is arguably one of South Africa’s favourite public holidays. The Randfontein Herald has thus decided to speak to Enrique to get a sense of what the day and occasion mean for him, his family, and his friends.
“Heritage Day for my family and I means spending quality time with each other, as well as with our friends and colleagues and just having a ‘lekker’ braai. We usually just hang around the pool with our kids and enjoy the day to the fullest. We also like spending the day with our elders who have paved the way for us. We also use this day to celebrate the diversity of our country and its people,” Enrique said.
Asked how he prepares his meat, Enrique said he prefers marinating it and also coats it with specifically Six Gun Grill seasoning – a family favourite. The family’s preferred choice of meat to braai includes chops, wors, chuck, chicken flatties and cheese wors.
He also prefers to have his meat with a side of sweet corn wrapped in foil, salad, pap and sometimes rolls.
