Stolen cattle found with legs mutilated

SPCA reveals shocking discovery between Westonaria and Fochville where stolen cattle were found with their legs hacked.

Cattle were relieved of their misery and had to be humanely euthanised after they were found with their legs hacked.

According to RandWest SPCA inspector Rene van Straten, the gruesome discovery was made on September 22 on a farm between Westonaria and Fochville.

“We received information from anti-stock theft groups that cattle had been slaughtered on a farm as a result of stock theft. Our field officer Junior Cuna and I rushed to the scene and upon arrival, we found the cattle to be in extraordinary pain and unable to stand.

“Without any hesitation, the owner who was understandably upset by the whole incident decided to enforce Section 5 of the Animals Protection Act – to humanely relieve these animals of their suffering. The police’s anti-stock theft unit is investigating the case and animal cruelty charges will be added in terms of the charges,” said Van Straten.
