West Rand Health engages with students on health matters

Health officials provided contraceptives, cancer screening, pregnancy testing, and HIV counselling among other services.

The West Rand District Health Services officials in Westonaria hosted their Blitz campaign at the Westcol Westonaria campus to discuss various health-related issues.

This was on September 28 when learners came out in their numbers to learn about the department’s product offering.

The district health spokesperson, Nomagugu Hloma said the purpose behind the campaign was to interact with students at the campus regarding health-related issues.

“We decided to visit the institution to empower the students there and provide various health services. This includes contraception, cancer screening, pregnancy testing, HIV counseling and testing, as well as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

“During this time, the learners actively engaged in aerobics. They also participated in meaningful dialogue about safer sexual practices. We believe that together, we are fostering a healthier future,” said Hloma.

She added that the campaign’s objective is to prevent unwanted pregnancies and promote dual protection, as well as discuss birth control methods among other pertinent issues.
