Carroll Shaw to sell their harvests at Checkers’ market day

Over 40 community food gardens across the country will be participating in the upcoming Checkers’ Market Day on October 12.

Emerging farmers from different parts of the country, including Randfontein, will be participating in the upcoming Shoprite and Checkers’ Market Day on October 12.

The Carroll Shaw Memorial Center will be at the Checkers in Tambotie Mall selling their fresh produce as part of the initiative.

Shoprite group sustainability manager Sanjeev Raghubir said emerging farmers from more than 40 community food gardens across the country will be participating in the market day.

“We’re very excited to witness how Market Day keeps growing with increased participation from community gardens. Since its launch in 2017, Market Day has served as an opportunity for small-scale food gardeners to sell their fresh and organically grown produce directly to the public at selected Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets. This will allow them the opportunity to gain invaluable retail experience in the process,” said Sanjeev.

He added that the contribution of emerging farmers goes beyond just supplying food as it is a step towards nurturing more resilient communities.
