Local NPO to hold walk for 16 Days of Activism
The walk will start at the BP in Zuurbekom and will move to other streets in the area and then proceed to head back to the petrol station.

Local NPO Philani Development Centre together with South Deep Mine, the Rand West City Local Municipality, and the Department of Health among other stakeholders will be holding a walk as part of their activities for the 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children.
This will be on December 9 and the walk will start at the BP service station in Zuurbekom and will move to other streets in the area and then proceed to head back to the petrol station.
Founder and director of the centre, Phyllis Malope said, “The purpose of the event is to challenge the cultures and practices that perpetuate gender inequalities and consequent abuse of women and children at a personal and societal level.
“It is because of this that we encourage community members to reject and report abusers and to act and to not look away. We need people to be sensitive and supportive to gender-based violence victims and survivors, and share helpful information in that regard.
“As such, we are looking forward to having the walk, as it will allow us to unpack such matters and teach children values regarding gender equality,” said Malope.
