Why training your dog is beneficial for both pet and owner
Wendy gives some tips and tricks as a qualified dog trainer.
Wendy Eno, a dog trainer from Greenhills, is used to handling dogs no matter how strong their bark or bite. Here is how she does it …
About 37 years ago, Wendy and her husband saw the need to train their own dogs. After training their dogs they noticed that there is a need for dog training. Therefore, they became instructors, helping many animal lovers to understand their pets.
“There is a huge need for dog training. Even showing and explaining the basic needs and hierarchy of the dog is so important and necessary to improve and better the quality of the dog’s life,” she explained.
Her main goal is to see not only the owner happy, but to see that their pets are also satisfied. They need to teach owners how to correctly handle and look after their dogs.
“My biggest motivation is seeing the improvement and confidence in the owner and the dog realising that his owner now understands his basic needs. Take the time to understand your dog’s basic needs and never use a feeder [leaving food down all the time],” she said.
Signing up to train a dog may entail a few requirements:
• All dogs must be handled by an adult at all times on a lead
• No children under the age of 16 may train their dog
• Injections must be up to date
• Handler must wear closed shoes
• Bring treats as well as plastic bags to pick up any mess left by your dog
• Bring water for your dog
