Operation Rescue Xena a success
No More Tears went on a relentless mission to rescue Xena the dog.
No More Tears Animal Rescue launched a big rescue mission to help save Xena.
On the evening of November 20, director Riana Cronje and volunteer Clarisse Kruger noticed a severely malnourished Afrikanus dog roaming the area near the Greenhills Stadium.
Clarisse added the dog was bewildered while running in between the vehicles on the road and running in circles. They tried to get close to the dog and called her, however, the dog was too rattled.
“Unfortunately, we lost sight of her when she ran inside the stadium,” Clarisse said.
On November 22, a resident saw the dog and called No More Tears for assistance. The dog managed to disappear once again.
Director Stephan Hendricks saw the dog on November 24 in the same area she had roamed the first time she was spotted. Clarisse explained the dog must have been hit by a car within that week since her front paw was injured.
No More Tears contacted veterinarian Dr Johan Naude, who darted the dog. Clarisse mentioned that three Mapogo A Mathamaga officers managed to block the road with their vehicles. This was to ensure that if the dog was to run, it would not be injured by any oncoming traffic.
The dog was named Xena and she is currently at the Randfontein Animal Hospital where her broken front leg, tick fever and malnourishment are being treated.
“She is a true fighter and she is healing better day by day. She deserves a second chance. A chance to have a forever home and a loving family,” Clarisse expressed.
No More Tears thanked Naude, the Mapogo officers as well as everyone who played a role in saving Xena.
Donations can be made directly to the Randfontein Animal Hospital or residents can call the veterinary hospital on 011 412 1010. For more information, contact No More Tears on 084 433 7748.
